Who Is Jenn?
Hey, I’m Jenn. A Calgary Based Art Therapist, Counsellor and Podcast Host.
As a side gig, I do some work for The Salvation Army as community outreach support. What this means is that I connect with folks living outside, offer them coffee and see how they are doing. And in doing this work I have noticed a tragic pattern among men. Men are holding onto grief and don’t know how to feel it.
These men had lost children, were rejected or forgotten by parents, were abused, had to grow up too fast, lost limbs, had their belongings stolen and the list goes on. But over months of this work I saw first hand that this was a far more common pattern than I ever through before. The grief is big, and these men have no idea how to process it in healthy ways.
So, this realization has inspired a big shift in the work that I do as an Art Therapist in Private Practice. I have shifted from working with both men and women to now working primarily with men. My hope is to help more men feel safe, find creative outlets for their grief and trauma and to validate that they are not alone, and do not have to feel alone.
Together we will find a way through the big emotions by using art, photography, collage, sculpture etc. And the art is a fantastic way to bypass any blocks, barriers or fears, and get right to the root cause of the pain.
I have seen, that when men share their stories through art, they feel unburdened, their mental health significantly improves, they have deeper connections to their friends, family, partners and they even perform better in their workouts.
So, if you are looking for something different in therapy, let’s chat and see if we are a good fit.
I look forward to connecting with YOU!
